The Tombel Grandstand was last week Saturday November 30, full to capacity with spectators who turned out to witness the installation ceremony of the iron lady of the Tombel Municipality, Ngassa Rose.
Ngassa Rose who hails from the Bamileke extraction, from the Western Region was reelected for the second time as mayor of the Tombel council after the September 30th twin election.
The enterprising lady was born in Tombel in October 29, 1962. According to the Senior Divisional Officer for Kupemuanguba Division, she averagely studied and earned a certificate of Probatoire from the Tombel Technical School. Married with five children the Mayoress has lived most of her life in the municipality.
For the past five years the no nonsense lady has ruled the municipality with and iron hand leaving no stone unturned when it comes to satisfying the needs of the people.
The plight of women and children in the municipality is reported to have been her preoccupation. Reason why most people believed she won a second term because the women confessed to have found favour in her compared to the men who have ruled the municipality.
Her great ambitions and courage has earned her the title of menone>> meaning trials for you n the Bakossi language. Like the Amazon she led the council list to victory leaving her opponents in shock and total disappointment.
The SDO who showered praises on her confirmed that her victory was no surprise to him. He told the population that the Mayoress has the merit of and old broom which knows all the corners of the house and that her vibrant balance sheet of her last mandate has proved her worth.
For over five years the SDO noted that the mayoress has financed more than 35 projects in the municipality from income generated from the council. He went ahead to tell those present that the sum of over 65 million cfaf was presented to him in cash when he threaten to bloc the councils account during a crisis that slowed down the functioning of the council. This, the SDO retreated, has made the Tombel council one of the most viable councils in the South west region.
The Kupemuanguba boss did not close his eyes to some of the issues plaguing the municipality. He made allusions to the rise in Juvenal delinquency, low level of hygiene and sanitation, insufficient supply of water, poor state of farm-to-market roads and above all warned against back biting, laziness and corruption amongst council staff and the lack of concern on the interest of the people when making decisions.
The Tombel council will however be led by four assistant mayors beside the mayoress. Chef Benard Ebong Salle, Hypolite Ngalame Kome, Nawesse Eta Constant and Madam Ebong Agnes will be acting as first, second, third and fourth deputy mayors respectively.
The ground breaking event began with an ecumenical service with some four pastors from different churches alongside one Imam and one priest all from the Tombel municipality inviting Gods presence in their mist.
This, was however followed by life performances from some Cameroonian musicians and comedians while the population waited for the SDO. Choral groups were also highly represented.
